Fair points. I suppose its the part we dont know. For example, im fairly sure the club told Dubravka that they would allow him to leave this summer when they signed a keeper.

Its this background that meant we pretty much had to sign a keeper and, of course, make sure it was some sort of upgrade, even if a minor one.

I'll be flabbergasted is Dubravka stays.

I think it's just difficult to keep someone not named Steve Harper as No. 2 goalkeeper for more than a certain number of years because they'll fall into either resentment or complacency. You've gotta keep rotating that role with different players even if it's not a straight upgrade. And clearly the club feels that we're past the date where we can keep Dubravka around as a pure backup.

If we're not going to be able to sign some massive superstar keeper, a move like this makes sense. He'll either hold down the backup position for a while, or we'll get lucky and he'll improve under Howe to eventually supersede Pope as No. 1.

Not a thread you want to see after a long day at work.

Significant loan fees are the worst possible kind of spend in this PSR world, unless you’re planning to make it permanent.

On the plus side he’s 27 which is still young for a keeper and he’s decent with the ball at his feet. Providing of course it ends up a permanent deal.

Have to say I’m at the point now though where I’m desperate for Isak to stay. The current set up and I include Eddie in this, are just not equipped to spend circa 150 million this window. The targets are getting worse by the day, not a chance are we signing Sesko.

That sort of money needs reserved for when we have a competent DOF in place with a vision.

All fine sitting on the wedge but a fuck up of a season means another summer of being potentially picked off. Bruno, Sandro, Tino, Gordon - all likely to be tapped up to fuck and us running the risk of them consider their future. We need the inbound players to stabilise and have another go at CL progress and re-qualification.

You’ve missed the bit off saying he is desperate for Isak to stay. So we wouldn’t have all that money to spend.

Sell him next summer when we hopefully have something resembling a competent board.

Another thing that’s niggling away in my mind is if we’re dropping down the target list - Kepa went for £5m earlier this window. In comparison to Ramsdale and what we’ll likely have to pay for him that’s gonna be an awful value comparison.

That young keeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp, surely he’s affordable and a similar age to Trafford.

This was my fear with no DOF in place we’d be restricted to PL targets, or players we’ve scouted historically.

Have they had Nickson locked down in Benton the last 2 years, what the fuck is going on.

Why the fuck are the club still allowing Ornstwanker and Romancunt to be briefed on our transfer dealings when they have clearly and demonstrably been shown to be acting against our best interests? Life ban the pair of them they are the most hideous pair of snozzcumbers that even the BFG won’t touch them.

I'm not sure they are briefed tbh.

I dont know if its been mentioned but Dubravka wasnt with the squad when we were in for Trafford, then joined the squad when Trafford fell through... they said it was an injury but im fairly certain hes leaving.

Im not going to give my opinion on Ramsdale because im aware that im in the minority on this one and sometimes it right to let people vent.

All I will say is that when the dust settles, I reckon this will look like a really sound piece of business, despite the calamity that has been our summer thus far.

I mentioned it in the Trafford thread. Was part of the deal and was ready to sign for Burnley.

Has any figures been mentioned by any of these journos? Feels a bit odd. He’s on massive wages or at least was at Arsenal and I’m guessing Southampton took them on with a smaller signing fee. Weird having a 2-3rd choice GK as one of your top earners … mind you we’ve a £20m 4th choice GK on a good salary too

Think Kepa wanted to stay in London, but agree with your general point.

Ramsdale is better than Kepa IMO and I’m no Ramsdale fan  Kepa’s always gave me the same vibes as that French Leeds keeper.
