The level of negativity on this board has reached an embarrassing level to be honest and just completely wears you down, how do you lot cope reading this s**** every day?

The same brigade were out in force when Shelvey was announced, one decent debut later and all of a sudden he's a decent addition? Seriously guys, while Townsend might not be Ben Arfa, he's a damn sight better than the other options we have in wide areas.

I keep an eye out for the latest news on here but rarely post, half the board are f***ing bi polar.

I thought quite a few were keen on Shelvey?  I got the impression most on here were happy with the signing?

I do find this forum a bit bi-polar at times.  The relegation thread and views on how we've played are extremely up and down.  But most forums I have visited are no different overall and it's Newcastle United FFS!  The whole f***ing club is suffering from some sort of split personality disorder.  So it's no surprise it's like that on here.

The general consensus with Shelvey was 'meh', just like Townsend now. I totally get the annoyance and frustration and refusal to accept Ashley's ownership, we all know we won't win f*** all with this set up, so who on earth are we supposed to target!?

Shelvey - meh

Townsend - meh

Gomis - not good enough

Lacazette - he won't come here

It's frigging mind numbing at times.

Well TBF, I agree with 3 out of the 4 there.  So I'm a doom monger and I'm negative.  I've maybe got a bit more of an open mind on Townsend.  Only because I'm a sucker for direct players with pace.  I can't say I'm particularly optimistic that he'll do well for us, though.  Maybe with a run of games he will.  But it's not like we're in a position to get him up to speed and carry him.

I am going to give the lad a chance before I write him off or not. Let's see how it turns out first before we all burn him at the stake.  Might join the negative nelly's after 10 mins of his debut like if he looks w***, until that moment, welcome aboard.

Townsend is a means to offloading one of our better midfielders. Think we'll try to ship De Jong too.

Both Ashley and Levy have played a blinder

Levy has sold a name for £12m.

Ashley has bought a name to sell to fans ("English, PL experience etc"), got an extra body to justify a disposal of a more valuable asset (probably Sissoko/Gini in the summer), and potentially has a 24 year old English player for resale, bought at his monetary nadir.

I really think you overestimate how much we do for PR reasons.

Yeah.  Now that it seems like he's coming.  I'm of that opinion.  I just wanted to join in with the nonplussed gif responses!

Gomis isn't good enough tbh.

Guys a f***ing plank, Sholaesque standard and one we managed to miraculously avoid (somehow) over the years.

Lacazette isn't coming in a million years, why the f*** would he???

As for the two we have signed, I personally think they both improve the squad, and both are probable starting 11 certs...

All this still doesn't address the immediate issues of we need a f***ing striker though!

You've literally just proved my point

Gomis has scored a steady amount of goals in this division, why should we turn our noses up at him when our own strikers can't manage that?

As for Lacazette, the same was said about Thauvin was it not? "He doesn't want to join, we're wasting our time with fake bids" etc etc.

Gomis started off well, he's looked a bit of a donkey for the last couple of months.

Can't make up my mind about this - I always thought he looked promising when he first started playing for Spurs, but have to say I hadn't realised that he had fallen out of favour to quite the degree that he has.  Think he's got some natural talent and seems relatively quick so don't think it's the worst move in the world.  Would rather we'd got a striker in though.

had on a second, wasn't shelvey a player almost everyone on this board said we should target and then were pleased when we signed him?

I rarely post on here but browse the forum from time to time. I have to agree, some of the tripe people post on here is laughable.

IIRC most people thought he would be a decent signing but were worried about what Swansea fans were saying about him.

Granted, he's not going to score 15-20 a season, but he's got the same amount of league goals (5) as our highest scoring striker this season...

Ian, almost every decision/wording they come out with is to keep the fans at arms length. I'm looking at fb forums now and on the basis of shelvey and Townsend people are piping up with the he's changed angle. It's fickle and depressing.

First of all: You're absolutely right.

Re: Shelvey, I was cautiously optimistic when he signed and really liked what I saw of him against West Ham.

Townsend, however, now this is just a very strange signing IMO.
