It's a great point that should be put to Sir Jim every chance they get.

How are we saying with a straight face that it's the people's game when we'll sack office staff to fund a midfielder.

I'm sure the scouts will be aware of him. They must have seen something that has persuaded them not to bid. We have pretty much gone after everyone else this summer so if they wanted him I'm sure we would have gone in.

Scouts aware, but probably only have a years or 6 months so don't want to make the call unlike in the early days.

All safe stuff these days, players we've known for multiple years. Which is fine to a degree, but it really does narrow down your scope when you miss out on targets as we're seeing with the striker. Gamble needs doing, and him at £25m mark is better than likes of Agahowa at £70m.

Seems like £30m is just the automatic base starting price for any player deemed good enough for the PL. Some will be more obviously but the inflation is very real

Just makes the rolling £105m over 3 years seem even more mental than ever :hmm:

Our deals looking like a bargain now:

Yep, Elanga at £50m is a much better deal than Hutchinson at £37.5m imo. I was seriously underwhelmed with Hutchinson last season before thinking he was alright at the U21 tournament. He looks like someone who's going to stick around the PL for a while though.

Buy back clauses should be outlawed. The only teams that can force them into deals are the elite clubs who already have everything stacked in their favour. They know that it’s an absolute no-lose scenario with huge upside to agree a relatively low buy-back clause that you’d only ever implement if the player was worth way more than the value you’d agreed a few years previous. It’s fucking dogshit for football to just keep making life easier and easier for the top clubs
