I guess the plan is to slowly grow it but aye, it sounds absolutely teeth.

 "Hey see how we got kicked out of domestic league and none of our players are allowed to play for their country? Come join us! It's great...really!"

Liverpool releasing a statement quoting the words of Joel Glazer. Christ.

The whole concept is farcical like. So, what happens if they do leave their domestic leagues? The same 20 teams play eachother every year, forever? There's no european competition because they wont be allowed, theres no domestic cup competition of any note because its just the same 20 teams. Sounds dull as fuck.

They really think they could stay in their domestic leagues this lot?

It’s a terrible idea, short sighted. So what happens if Arsenal finish bottom of the group stages? Do they get relegated? If not then it’s a total farce. The idea of competition is that if a team does badly they get relegated.

It seems to me that it’s as much of a hostile move against each individual league, especially the PL. I think that’s the longer term goal

premier wont be able to kick them out as then sky/amazon/bt/bein etc etc would refuse to pay what they'd agreed. premier league cubs cant afford that kind of loss.

this is going through and will be alongside the premier league.

football is fucked.

Absolutely disgusting from the money hungry teams, imagine wanting a closed shop competition with a few scraps thrown to other teams that may just get in. What makes the "founders" deserve an automatic spot when you've got Arsenal barely scrapping a draw against Fulham and Manure that's spent the last few years meandering in midtable, arrogance beyond compare here and they call us fucking delusional :memelol:

How can they refuse to pay because those clubs aren’t competing?

Ok it’s not likely, but over the course of the 3 years deals they sign, there is a possibility that one or more of those clubs could be relegated. There is also the possibility that they can be sanctioned for failing to adhere to the rules, which would in the extreme cases include being expelled from the competition.

The broadcasters have no say on who is in the league, they are just gambling that the top 6 will be, a gamble that is usually a very safe gamble, but a gamble non the less.

Yeah but those contracts don't run forever.

How can they sign a contract which includes coverage of those specific clubs when there is a possibility (very very slim) of them being relegated?
