If he's on £800 per month, £20k would surely do. Journalist speculating, I suspect.

Probably would if there wasn't a £30K offer sitting there

You would think from £800 to £20k at a club that he wants to stay at is good enough.

But then there are very likely other variables (contract length, etc).

If it’s ‘only’ £20k though and a lot is bonus lead, if we get taken over he’s unlikely to play those games to earn what he could. He could be playing week-in, week-out for Watford in the Championship getting £30k regardless in a few months. We need to match it really.

It doesn't really matter what he's on now. He's a PL squad player now, and he has the right to be paid as much as anyone else in that position.

Eze does it for Newcastle

Prospective new Newcastle board member Jamie Reuben appears to already be making his presence felt at St James' Park.

The 33-year-old financier, whose family are set to take a 10 per cent stake of the club if the Saudi Arabia-backed £300million Newcastle takeover is approved by the Premier League, is currently a director of Queens Park Rangers, where he has been wowed by the outstanding performances of Eberechi Eze all season.

Newcastle are the latest club to express an interest in signing the England Under 21 forward, whose contract expires next year.

Reuben's influence in Newcastle's planned move for Eze should not be underestimated, although he would have to resign as a director of QPR in order to join a reformed Newcastle board that is expected to be led by the governor of Saudi's Public Investment Fund, Yasir Al-Rumayyan.

Sorry but owners and/or part owners should never pick players to buy. Maybe put a name forward but it should be the manager and DOF, if you have one who pick the players, so you have a balanced squad of players the manager wants.

Would make sense usually, but since we aren't actually in a position to appoint a manager or DOF yet, you can understand why Reubens name is getting put to it. For all we know, it might well be someone else's suggestion but the Mail is going along with Ruebens because they don't have another name they can attach to it.

Reubens being suggested because Eze plays for QPR and hes on the board of QPR. He knows the player and for that reason be is being named as the driving force behind it. If true I dont see him suggesting other players but rather leave it to a DoF.

Obviously the best course of action is to totally assume it's complete bollocks, guess it's something to talk about mind.

Looks like the transfer window could be moved to October which should give Rafa a bit more time.
