I don’t think this one will happen but I’d be ok with that. Does seem we have plenty of spend available though.

Not selling Isak to the Scouse is the primary concern for me. Couldn't carless if they got Ekitike.

Woooo ya reckon? Surely your talking before we count sales?

Either way I'm here for it!

There’ll not be much else coming in now will there?

We’re in the market for five first team additions, if we do somehow still get Hugo I don’t think we’d stop short of bringing in the 3 more Howe wants, but the profile would likely change.

Obviously it's better that Ekitike goes to Liverpool than Isak, we can always buy someone else, we also identified Ekitike as a talent when he was still a teenager playing for Reims which inspires confidence in our overall process, also when we previously failed to get Ekitike and Joao Pedro we ended up with Isak

Yeah I don't imagine we will shift much more personally. I think it would be a stretch for us to spend 200m though.

We are definitely once bitten twice shy when it comes to budgets.

I did think getting too expensive attackers would lead to a compromise  somewhere just wasn't sure where.

He’s got a cracking agent, I’ll give him that.

If we do miss out, it’ll be interesting to see what our move is. Go big again or reallocate the funds to get a different level of player in one or two positions?

Get Mitro in on loan from Saudi for a season, go big on a striker next summer.

Play Mitro against Liverpool with the intention of shithousing them for the full 30 mins before he’s sent off.

Reallocate the rest of the funds on a couple of stonking signings at CB and CM.

I think we may shift focuse away from the Pedro/Ekitike profile now as well. Maybe a cheap striker and spend elsewhere.

Cheap strikers who can contribute seem to be thin on the ground so Ill be curious to see how we manage it.

Either way it's exciting times though, let's get some quality in and push for the knockouts of the CL and CL qualification again.

Eddie needs more support from the ownership and the commercial side we really have to do more and close the gap so we can be truly competitive.

Exactly my thoughts. Obviously we can't know exactly what our budget is but I wouldn't be disappointed if we aimed more in the £30-40m range for a forward and either spread the extra £30-40m a Pedro or Ekitike would cost between GK, CB and a midfielder.

It means we probably wouldn't have the nailed-on Isak replacement that we hope Ekitike would be (looking ahead to 26/27 season), but the squad would be stronger. If we qualify for the CL again, plus get £100m or so for Isak we'd be in a very strong position to rebuild next summer.

I didn’t realise how much of a shill for the big clubs Romano, Jacobs etc have become until this summer window. There’s probably a bit of engagement farming in it as well but it’s becoming as unreliable as the back pages rather than what’s actually happening.

It’s a classic we’ve made a move, price is driving up, so let’s move on which we did loads of in 2023.

Plenty more targets out there. Think what’s reassuring is we quickly moved from Pedro to Etikike, and hopefully same again. Like there’s talks going on with different players it seems which is good.

a) Keep Isak

b) Keep Isak + new contract

c) Keep Isak + sign Ekitike for £86m

d) sell Isak + sign Ekitike for £86m

Are we in broad agreement the order of preference is:

b, a, c, d

#1 priority keep Isak and for £86m of our budget I'm not at all unhappy with Ekitike going to Liverpool

It's all engagement farming man, they are making a ton.

If you've noticed no matter any media outlet will always focus on the cartel clubs. Athletic do a daily podcast and seriously 4/5 of the episodes a week will be about cartel clubs no matter what. They have rabid online fan bases who will click on anything.

I think most on here are in agreement, be a bit disappointing to miss out on him, but the most important thing is to not let it drag on. Season starts in just over 4 weeks, we really could do with a couple in by then.
