Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)

Sesko plays in a front two at Leipzig. He's a well rounded forward. Openda was typically the one that looked to get further forward between the two.

He's not as gifted technically or as silky smooth as Ekitike, but he's not just some big lump. He is very comfortable on the ball.

He's massive, but he's really athletic and quick as well.

Seems to be a fair bit of confusion surrounding him on here.

You just know Liverpool will try sell this as a win.

Dunno what Liverpool the club will do, but nutters in their fanbase will sell it as a win. Liverpool have been successful and their fanbase has swollen to include lots of nutters. There is a mini industry serving them on punditry shows and online. Do your brain a favour and don't watch any of it.

Editkev with the goods here. The best explanation is that Liverpool don't actually want Ekitike. The nutters in Liverpool's fanbase (and our fanbase) will have many theories, but a higher profile club should not stand by, let a lower profile club bid on a player, and then panic into bidding and trying to leverage their higher profile. They should just get the business done pronto weeks ago at the cheapest possible price.

All the circus around this is getting very tiresome, so I'm losing interest. We have 70M to spend on a Wilson replacement and I trust Eddie to spend it wisely. Wake me up when someone signs. It doesn't have to be Ekitike, who looks great but is unproven in our league.

(LFC won't sell, but the last thing my Twitter said was the Mac Allister wants to leave too. This makes sense from a "they're all in it for themselves" viewpoint)

Like it’s the league champions and the top three striker in world, that would cost a record fee. Dream traffic engagement.

Sure if we leaked that we are interested in signing say Harry Kane, and prepared to pay £80m+ should Bayern consider selling, Romano would be tweeting about it for rest of window despite there being less than 1% to it :D

I was saying in the whatsapp group chat the other week I'm honestly baffled why Sesko gets all the praise and Openda never gets linked with a move - he's a good striker.

Just move on, he seems to have a lot of potential, but losing out for a second time in a transfer move for him is a kick in the grapefruits.

At least it would be good to have a player to hate if he does sign for them

I think we're still in pole position with Ekitike and I suspect our valuation isn't too far away from Frankfurt's. I think this will go through and he'll make a good combination with Isak.

There's media talk about LIverpool having a 'serious interest' in Ekitike, but they don't seem to have made a bid, and given that our talks are fairly advanced, you'd have thought they'd have got a move on by now. I also read somewhere that Ekitike has been impressed by the fact that our interest is of long-standing, and if I were in his position, that would be an important factor for me.

The media are trying to create a drama out of this. The narrative has always been that we are the club that tries hard but fails in the end. They're trying to re-create that story with this situation.

As for Isak, they're assuming that we'll be powerless to stop him going, in the same way as happened with Gazza, Beardsley and Waddle. However, we've got a trophy behind us, we're in the Champions League, and we can now offer some hope to an ambitious player.

The lad from Porto, Samu was someone we where linked with earlier in the window. He is the right type of profile.

Both he and Sesko have the best physical and athletic profiles of the young up and coming strikers. They are big, athletic and quick.

However, Sesko surpasses Samu technically. The ball will bounce off Samu a fair bit and he can look awkward on the ball at times. Think Sesko is much further along in that regard.

Both have immense potential.

Not that I think this is the case but I would love it if we were working on another striker behind the scenes and we announce him shortly. Icing on the cake would be a one year extension (at least) preferably a whole new contract with Isak.

Wishful thinking huh!

All I can say is I hope they’ve been working on something alongside this.

Not worried at all personally. But I do think as fans it's important we understand we can only conduct background checks on so many players and we know this is a very large element of how we recruit.

Does look more and more like this is a wrap. Great work signing a player you don’t really want Liverpool for the absolute max possible price and making that player not wanted. We’ll sign someone else and make a massive success of it anyway

Yeah Openda is decent.

He did have a bit of a down year though, as his goal numbers dropped from the previous season.

Think he also doesn't get as much hype because he's on the smaller side, and so in single striker formations, I think most clubs want someone with more of a presence up top.

yea, that’s why I am a little bit puzzled. Say if we splash 100m on Ekitike, got him, marvellous, and then? No way we would let him sit on the bench and so we are definitely going to change to 4-4-2.

Would that work? That’s really a big change to our system.

He'd play plenty of games on the wing or if we need to break a team down or asa duo up top.

Gutted we missed out in Pedro and will be gutted if we miss out on Ekitike, but if the net result is Isak stays and signs a contract then its a win overall, not to mention the profile of striker we're after is seemingly top tier so plenty to still be excited about, I'd say.

Ekitike only wants Newcastle. Ekitike prefers Liverpool. Blah, blah, blah… . So sick of typing his name already.
Bottom line is we will have two strikers for next season. Unless we have meaningful alternatives, which are seen as beneficial for the team as a whole, only one of them will be new.
