Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)

Recommended Posts

I feel like in the year 2038 we will still be hearing about Ekitike as he knocks us back for the 23rd time. But that won't deter us. We will be back in for him in the summer of 2039.

Eddie WILL eventually get his man.

If we don't get Ekitike now it will feel a tad disappointing. There's only so much getting excited about us chasing top players that never seemed that arsed about joining us that can happen before it starts to get a bit annoying.

Retaining Isak is definitely the priority, of course, but it would be nice to win one of these competitive situations against the cartel lot for a change.

He'll choose what he considers to be his best option when a club or clubs agree a fee with his club. His preferred destination may not be an option.

Those laughing at the tenuous Man U link...he did say in that interview posted that he was a Man U fan growing up.

Still if he was a true Man U fan then traditionally he should be refusing to join Liverpool on that principal alone.

Anyways I'm also ambivalent about this now too. Only allowed myself to get slightly drawn in and watch a compilation of him when it looked like a deal was close the other evening but now back to not giving a shit and just preferring that we ensure we still have Isak over anything else.

Plus I think the fee being quoted to likely get him is a bit ridiculous for the small sample of his potential we have seen so far. He is far more likely to flop in England than necessarily become the next Isak.

I think I'd be happy if we nail all our other position targets with that money and then whatever is left over we try and pick up some depth in CF elsewhere. If we can't get him at the the £70-75m we were hoping for.

Yeah based on that I instantly thought of Timo Werner/Fullkrug/Havertz. Good in Germany, garbage in the PL.

And they aren't even the worst examples. There have been so many players that looked great elsewhere but for whatever reason the premier league can sometimes just overwhelm some. Maybe it's he speed or intensity or something but it's happend time and again to high rated players.

I'm sure Ekitike has all the attributes and if our scouts have deemed him good value then it's a safe bet he might be a success. There are never any guarantees. But players like Isak, Salah etc are rare commodities and don't come along that often. So chances are he will be good but won't live up to the price tag he's going for now.

At this point I'd make a bid at his release clause and if he goes to Liverpool, so be it. It's too much money anyway. If they don't bid then we get him and scale back the rest of the window if needed. I think I like the former scenario a little better.

We had no money at all, even for the loan fee.

We had to desperately sell Anderson and Minteh before July that year.

Was when it was like? Thought it was the year before.

I’m surprised that I’m as nonplussed about this as I am. I just feel like it will work out one way or another. We’ve got money to spend and we seem to be going about our transfers smartly.

Need this concluded 1 way or another this week. Because as it stands, we've signed 1 player which is no where near enough.

If he's waiting for Liverpool, then "move on" as we don't have time for this to go on weeks and weeks
