Great comments everyone.

There is little to add, but I'll just remind everyone that Everton won their last game 4-1 against Premier League opposition. Four goals off five attempts on target says the score flattered them, but a 4-1 is still a 4-1. By hitting them with a strong high press basically straight from the kickoff and forcing them into losing possession in their own half several times, I think we destroyed any confidence they may have gained from that cup win. We won the game in the second half, but the first half set it up.

The other point I'll make is that we still only had 40% of possession, i.e., 40% of the passes hit were by us. That was a very comfortable win, so that stat is completely irrelevant. Passes between CHs will click click the possession number, while ASM running rings round people on route to goal will not. We all know which of those we'd like to watch.

I'm optimistic our possession stat will improve once Bruno is in the side. He seems to actually like receiving the ball under pressure, and using that situation to find gaps in the opposition. We're still not great at playing the ball through the midfield, and losing the ball at throw-ins is still a problem.

In that respect, Everton looked the better side for a period, but they seemed to lose their way after our equaliser. There seemed to be a lack of leadership on the pitch. And a lack of a striker to really lead the line for them.

Team Played a blinder last night.

Trippier instills both calm and fight into the players around him. His goal was the finishing touch to the best defensive performance at st james park for a good couple of years...

ASM was in piss-take mode in the 2nd half, didn´t matter how many there were around him he just threaded his way through, shame he didn´t give bruno the return pass which would have made the performance an 11/10.

Yep, shelvey worries me with his stupid tackling and I think he will be the one who is displaced by Bruno, willock is perfect for bruno´s progressive passing.

Only down point was that Wood dissapointed, he needs to get more involved. i caught the last 15 mins of the Burnley game and the german bloke (wheghorst?) they bought, for half the price, looks a lot more mobile and productive.

I put this in the pre match thread after watching them against Brentford:

"Watched the first half of Everton vs Brentford, doing a bit of scouting for Eddie:

-Everton like to fuck about with the ball at the back, so press their defenders.

-Their centre midfield of Allan and Andre Gomes look good on the ball but lazy as fuck, Joe should get some joy.

-Clear danger of Gray and Richarlison who have massive pace on the break.

-Stick someone next to dino-arms on every set piece, he shits himself every time."

My first two points were spot on IMO. Their playing out from the back was tragic.

It was hilarious; Gray saying that he could only see a comfortable Everton win and Keys saying our only good signing this window was Wood (and that we’re the likeliest to go down).

Any videos of this around?

Slept for like 4h last night. Im feeling like im on viagra. Amazing and a positive feeling today. Massive result and great for momentum going forward.

Soo many positives to take and confidence only getting better. Then to add Bruno on top of that, With ASM finding form.

I genuinely couldn't sleep.

One of them nights where there just isn't enough nufc content in the world to satisfy me. My throat is fucking killing off shouting, hugging randoms after trippiers goal, it was like an outpouring of relief and stress I've not felt in a long time.

God bless you nufc.

Oh and thought it was funny as hell Southgate sitting with Amanda. When we scored he couldn't really celebrate and just sat there while everyone was going mental. [emoji38]

Bet you can count on one hand the times Southgate as been to St James.

Reading a Pickford thread on an Everton forum today is quite funny

Minor issue but I honestly just wouldn't play him vs Newcastle anymore, it clearly gets to him so much.

So weak mentally. Imagine being so arsed about league one Sunderland, that his bottle goes asif he's playing Barcelona not the Barcodes. Small time mentality

Quote

He should be banned playing against Newcastle the bad bad helmet with his slicked back hair thinking he's clarke kent when he's hes an absolute flappy slide on wearing dosser

Quote

I think Pickford would have saved Trippiers kick if his arms weren’t so short

He plays the occasion against them. The constant time wasting, holding onto the ball, the boos get louder, riles the fans up more and more instead of piping them down.

He's a knobhead when it comes to playing Newcastle. We needed to diffuse the atmosphere tonight, not set a match to it.

Quote

Should never play at St James. He cant control his emotions. He is far too immature. No one is arsed about the Sunderland Newcastle rivalry and he needs to grow up

Quote

A clown who got ratteled by the Geordie / Mackem BS rivalry - again.

A 'kin amateur.

Usual at that ground. Plays the occasion not the match

They’re spot on tbh - and long may it continue! It was crucial we got into his head last night.

He bounces around on the edge of the 18-yard box when the ball’s up the other end and unless my eyes deceived me, I was absolutely convinced he was talking/muttering to himself too.

Did anyone on here get in the Newcastle Arms beforehand last night? Loads of Everton in, more than the usual amount of away fans. Kept playing one of their shite old timey songs on the jukebox. Hope they enjoyed their pasting.

 he definitely was yeah. not sure if he does that every game or what, but he looked fucking mental. kept coughing, shouting and twitching all over the shop. daft mackem weirdo.

I loved our equaliser and the fact we grabbed the ball out of the net and the whole team sprinted back to get the game restarted. tails were well and truly up.

Aye, I noticed the twitch. If it’s something he can’t help then I’d never take the mick, but seeing how he is in interviews etc I think it’s just that he’s a fucking weirdo who clearly can’t hide from the occasion.

Said to me old man about us going straight back to the halfway line anarl. Brilliant mentality.

It's fucking lovely.

Was it just me or was last nights game unusually hilarious?

Pickford, Joelinton's headkick, the dinosaurs, Everton trying to gain advantage through non-fair play, Bruno's back heel. Maybe I was just happy watching us for once [emoji38]

Aye, burst out laughing a few times. The own goals, the injuries to their players (as they weren’t serious), that clearance above that went for a corner, saint-maximin just rinsing them again and again in the same position down their right. Was hilarious
