Never feel a jot of worry about our defense when he's on the pitch. Botman is brilliant too.

If he has yet another supremely solid season then he deserves the title of best in my lifetime, like. Of course Woodgate was exceptionally talented but this guy is too.

Class above Woodgate for a few reasons.

Bloke is aging like a fine wine.

I also think he brings the best out of Botman. Sven is lovely, but he’s a big rampaging bloke that is physical and aggresssive. Schar is more of a pickpocket.

It works so well and is why I think Haaland didn’t score tonight.

Botman's pass straight out of play and then his being caught in no man's land shortly afterwards for their goal took a bit of the shine off an otherwise class performance, for me.

Not for many others, though, it seems:

Wor Fab will never be fully appreciated by the masses. He was the better of the two tonight, as tends to be the way.

That last-ditch tackle on Haaland was a thing of beauty, didn't even concede a corner.

Looked like he popped his shoulder in the first duel against Haaland. Wouldn't be surprised if it did despite him seeing out the entire game  At least he managed a full 90 without a head injury this time.
