Protest by all means but do it peacefully.   People who carry knifes are just scum, the person took it to the protest because he wanted to use it!  Or is the unfortunate incident because he didn't realise the knife was in his pocket and then it was unfortunate when he took it out and slashed the officers face?

Unfortunate incident, my arse!

Not that it makes much of a difference, but the injury was caused by a broken bottle rather than a knife.

We are such a soft country nowadays, people don't strike/protest etc anymore as a country.  Everyone is in their own bubble's and don't care what happens outside of these.  People are struck down for protesting etc.

It's a the reason why I respect the French so much, they do stand-up for what they believe in.

Without getting too political, that's why we have a Government who are more than happy to swindle public funds in plain site.

The same people who shrug their shoulders will be same people who are concerned about protests distracting the team.

A protest is meant to disruptive. Social disobedience is one of the only things we have left to show our disapproval and is key in providing accountability. The bootlicking displayed by the general population in this country has contributed massively to the depressing landscape we see today.

100% agree.

The right to protest is slowly being taken away from people in this country, whilst much of the population couldn't care less. It's a culture of "I'm alright, Jack - fuck you'.

Fuck the Premier League and fuck Sky, they helped spawn this monster and are now shitting the bed when it’s out of control. Just want to draw a line under the Super League fiasco, pretend it never happened and protect their brand.

I've been impressed with, and envious of, Man U fans standing up and actually fucking doing something. And yet...  Maybe I've still got a chip on my shoulder about 96, but some of the older generation of Man U fans will be the infuriating Essex bandwagon jumpers who became football fans and Man U fans precisely because they were top dogs over the period where Sky made the English top division the super commercialised money monster which eventually resulted in things like the Glazers and ESL that we see today.

It’s a weird take because your post (as usual) lacks all form of perspective.

You’re fixated on an isolated incident rather than acknowledging the actual purpose of the protest, it’s underlying factors and its impact.

The said impact is to engineer some kind of forced disruption to a formal apparatus that has long since ignored or totally sidelined grassroots campaigning.

Was watching our game on NBC when they split screen to cover Old Trafford.  I went about doing chores and was listening to Rebecca Lowe and the two Robbies.  When the hyperbole reached standards approaching the Jan 6 coverage in DC I stopped and paid attention.  I saw a guy throw a camera tripod and heard the commenters talk about a great shaking at the main gate and the the fans flooded in.  In general it was pretty tame and the only genuinely scary part was that big dudes pants almost fell down a couple of times.

Honestly I don't believe the Man U fans protest is anything to do about the soul of English football. They are using this as a pretext to try and force the Glazers out of their club, and they are only wanting to to that so they can get new owners like PIF instead so they can put Liverpool and Man City back down.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have an eye on PIF themselves, they know it was the American owners who stood in their way the last time.

The Premier League is to bring in a new owners' charter to stop future attempts to join a breakaway Super League.

It follows Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham agreeing to join the failed European Super League last month.

All owners will have to sign up to the new rule "committing them to the core principles" of the league with breaches punished by "significant" sanctions.

The league said "a few clubs cannot be allowed to create such division".

The Super League proposal, which also included some of Europe's biggest clubs, collapsed within 72 hours after widespread criticism from fans, players and governing bodies and politicians.

The Premier League said it is "determined" to "hold those clubs accountable for their decisions and actions".

"We and the FA are pursuing these objectives quickly and appropriately, consulting with fans and government," it said.

Statement from PL:

“The events of the last two weeks have challenged the foundations and resolve of English football. The Premier League has prepared a series of measures to enshrine the core principles of the professional game: an open pyramid, progression through sporting merit and the highest standards of sporting integrity. These measures are designed to stop the threat of breakaway leagues in the future.

“Opposition to the proposed Super League united the whole of football, with the fans’ voice clearly heard. The Premier League recognises the strength of feeling and the right of fans to know what is happening. We are committed to maintaining close dialogue with supporters and their representatives, as we work with The FA and Government to identify solutions, but ask that all protests are peaceful. The actions of a minority of those present at Old Trafford on Sunday have no justification and will be investigated by the Premier League and The FA as well as by the Greater Manchester Police.

“The actions of a few clubs cannot be allowed to create such division and disruption. We are determined to establish the truth of what happened and hold those clubs accountable for their decisions and actions. We and The FA are pursuing these objectives quickly and appropriately, consulting with fans and Government.

“In addition, the Premier League, supported by The FA, is taking the following actions to protect our game, our clubs and their fans from further disruption and uncertainty:

Additional rules and regulation to ensure the principles of the Premier League and open competition are protected
A new Owners’ Charter that all club owners will be required to sign up to, committing them to the core principles of the Premier League.

Breaches of these rules and the Charter will be subject to significant sanctions
We are enlisting the support of Government to bring in appropriate legislation to protect football’s open pyramid, principles of sporting merit and the integrity of the football community

“We will work with the fan groups, Government, UEFA, The FA, EFL, PFA and LMA to defend the integrity and future prospects of English Football.”

Football Association

“Since we became aware of the European Super League our priority and focus has been on preventing it from happening, both now and in the future.

“Throughout this period, we have been in ongoing discussions with the Government, the Premier League and UEFA. In particular, we have been discussing legislation with Government that would allow us to prevent any similar threat in the future so that we can protect the English football pyramid.

“Last week, we started an official inquiry into the formation of the European Super League and the involvement of the six English clubs. We wrote to all of the clubs to formally request all relevant information and evidence regarding their participation.

“Once we have the required information, we will consider what appropriate steps to take. Clearly what happened was unacceptable and could have caused great harm to clubs at every level of English football.

“The fans have played a vital and impactful role in helping to stop the European Super League from happening, and we understand their frustrations. However, we cannot condone the violent and criminal behaviour that took place before the scheduled Manchester United vs Liverpool match, which the FA is now investigating.”

Encouraging.

Masters has presided over project big picture, the blocking of hundreds of millions of pounds of investment into the north-east, the breakaway and all these ramifictions. Parliament's got to be wondering what kinda of p*ss pot outfit he's running and ask him to stand down surely, it may just be aesthetic but often someone would fall for this. But he seems to have an Ashley-esque slimy teflon ability to wriggle out of all this.

In the mean time, the FA and PL have done bugger all to punish the big 6. What they tried to pull off simply can't be swept under the carpet as if nothing happened.

Of course not and they knew they wouldn’t be punished - which is why they tried it in the first place.

It's a bit laughable the Premier League saying or doing anything about the so called big six, when they allowed them to go unchecked for so long.

Letting the clubs vet who will be their own chief executive, running plans by them before the other 14 teams see them.

You made a rod for your own back you corrupt arseholes.

A man allegedly punched by police during protests over Manchester United's owners has been left with a broken jaw and cracked ribs, his partner says.

Greater Manchester Police later said the footage shows a 28-year-old man being arrested in suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle and a public order offence.

An older article stolen from twitter but it perfectly explains why Masters was chosen and his willingness to please the super6.

Fucking corruption.

I wonder if De Marco has had a word with those other candidates about the influence of the big 6.....

“It’s all about the football,” Scudamore liked to remind people. “Never forget the football.”

Thats a bit disturbing reading that quote, that they actually have to remind themselves, it is about the football.
