Think people forget that Eddie got relegated with a better team than what we have now , we would have no chance of staying up in our current position if we appoint him as manager .

Football doesn't work like that, christ sake.  If it did, anyone on here could be a manager.

He also kept worse team's up in his first few seasons.

Nowt to do with wages according to the oracle that is Guillem Balague

None of this adds up at all.  Decent journalists supposedly cross-check their stories with different independent sources before running with an exclusive so surely he must have at least verbally agreed to be the next manager, subject to odds and sods being sorted out.  He must have been told things that he wanted to hear, the vision and direction doesn't suddenly then become a shitshow during a 48 hour window.  Either he's having second thoughts after his chat with Roig, or he's fucking about for improved terms.

I'll be gutted if it doesn't happen, but we need someone here who has their heart and soul set on making things a success.  Hopefully there is someone who is good enough who falls into that category.

If he's having doubts, I dont care what about, simply scratch his name off the list and move on.

He's not worth it and I wouldn't feel comfortable having someone here in any capacity that didn't jump at it, never seems to work.

They've wasted enough time as is without trying to convince him.

This.

The timing of the takeover has completely caught them out.

Fuck.... just go to Everton with open cheque book (are they still a thing?) and get them to sack/release Rafa.

This whole thing of manager/director of football chicken before the egg kinda thing.

Just hand Rafa the keys to whole kit and caboodle from a football side of things for a few years.   He had a plan/vision for the club, might need a wee bit editing since it was last viewed but not much I would imagine.  If he wants a DoF let him source one.

Giving it to Rafa get's the football side off your desk somewhat and means you can get in about the infrastructure of the club etc. knowing the most important part is in safe hands.

Are was just discounting everything he did before that?

Lets discount every manager who's had a bad season in their career..... Think we'll have 0 candidates.

Until it's official that he's pulled out he could literally be sitting somewhere with pen in hand about to sign.

You'd be livid as a Villarreal fan if it got to this stage and he hadn't properly denied the story.

I honestly think he is coming. It would have been formally announced by Villareal that he was staying if not.

They almost stayed up as well despite looking absolutely dead and buried at 1 stage.

This does worry me slightly. Staveley and co. clearly need some proper footballing people installed as quickly as possibly.

Delays in sacking Bruce have cost us, delays in identifying and recruiting his successor appear to be costing us too.

We’re not in a position to piss around.

A thorough recruitment campaign is fine, but to not have a single appointment made on the footballing perspective after a month is a car crash.

1 fucking season.  Are we judging all managers by their last season?

Rafa must have done a rough blueprint for club development with the consortium, a five year plan or whatever. With Rafa being Rafa, I bet it goes way beyond back of an envelope level.

Since we are in a relegation battle thanks to a very porous defence. that has to take precedence now. The only silver lining is that the reserves, academy, training facilities, etc., mostly stuff that is investment in returns that will always come later, can all start now.

A change was needed because he sent them into a downwards spiral after being backed heavily by the club for various seasons...

Please explain what makes anyone think he's the guy to come into this shitshow of a defense we have and galvanise/organise the second worst defensive team in the league fast enough to save us from relegation?

You’ve literally said they almost stayed up as something to celebrate. Yeah he did well getting them up but can you honestly say he’s the right man for the job right at this current moment.
