Yohan Cabaye retires

I'm not arsed but I am surprised a better club didn't come in for him.

I'm not. The top clubs can afford to buy players with his attributes plus some pace, height and athleticism.

Even that fee is not unreasonable even though it is higher than we have ever paid for a player since Ashley took over.

Is it not 10.5m "rising to" 13m based on.. stuff?

Cabella at 12m is close at least

Only Shearer and Owen have been signed by us for over 13m though.

No way was Cabella 12m. Probably closer to 8m

Hmm, possibly, his other attributes are of a very high standard though. Also there are clubs between the elite and Palace.

Don't really feel that arsed about him going there. I think he'll realise soon enough it's a poor move and a bit short sighted to solely concentrate on his Euro place. He'll probably be looking to move after that tournament.

Has to have been a better club in for him who could give him first team football. The respect and like for Pardew is a bit odd.

People seem to be forgetting he had many a poor game for us too.

His best form, by some distance, was when he was hankering for a move.

No doubt that he's technically gifted, but he's also got his shortcomings too.

At the time, Owen to Newcastle. 25 years old, England centre-forward, had done well in Spain...to Newcastle who'd just finished 14th.

I did think of this one, but because he is English he only had a choice of a few English clubs. He was never going to go to Germany or Italy so it didn't seem that weird at the time.

Remy to QPR was similar to this I think. Maybe Kilnsman?

13 million on a 3 year deal...

It'll be a challenge to use him properly. Palace look a much weaker team once they take out one of their bearded CM destroyers. Pardew had already started tinkering with that last season. Not that Cabaye isn't quality, but he doesn't defend or cover ground well, and he gets booked loads.
