West Ham and Newcastle United will battle it out for the signature of Burnley defender James Tarkowski, according to The Sun.

Burnley have a battle on their hands keeping hold of the 29-year-old centre-back, with the Hammers and Magpies preparing January bids.

The Clarets don’t want to lose Tarkowski and will demand as big a transfer fee as possible for the player, who has six months remaining on his contract at Turf Moor.

Newcastle United have rejected the chance to sign Tottenham forward Dele Alli, reports Football Insider.

It’s claimed the Magpies were offered the opportunity to sign the 25-year-old in January, with Spurs willing to help Alli secure more regular game-time.

But Eddie Howe has no intention of bringing Alli to St. James’ Park, with the Newcastle boss’ focus on strengthening other areas of his squad.

Alli could recapture his form from a few years ago, and for a lot of clubs it would be worth the gamble. For us it’s not though, it’s a massive risk for us if he stays at his current performance levels. Currently he is not any better than say Willock etc who could improve under Howe.

Denayer seems like a reasonable alternative to Ake/Kelly

If we could snag him and Kamara we'd be much better at bringing it out under pressure.

It sounds like Denayer could be a goer, although they are referencing Belgium sources in this article and he picked up an injury in early December so interesting to see the outcome with this.

We still desperately need a CM in the mould of Kamara, Sanches, Bennacer but with Joelinton cementing one of the CM positions as his own recently I don't think 2 new CM's in January is essential to stay up. More important to get a striker in due to Wilson probably being out for a long time.

We're a Joelinton injury away from going back to the.likes of Willock, Hayden and Longstaff. We need another midefielder in that can do whatever Big Joe is doing right now but perhaps also score a few more.

2 strikers in is imperative. Gayle is not going to score anymore.

Alli looked class in his previous game. He’s miles better than Willock, weird comparison

Probably Alli's first good game in two years. Can understand general apprehension tbh

BREAKING: Sevilla have made an offer to Manchester United to sign Anthony Martial on loan. Sky sports

Been rejected...

Sevilla thought they could get Martial during January's transfer window but it is understood the offer only covered half of his wages, which are thought to be around £150,000 a week.

Pay all his wages - no brainer class player with tons of Premier League experience.

Yeah I'd definitely be looking to sign an experienced striker in a short term deal Martial, Cavani, Aubameyang etc.

I just don't see any young strikers who could come in and make an impact.

We ain’t buying 2 strikers and we’re going to need to create some space in the squad as it is (hopefully). Get need to get some deadwood out which might prove difficult.

If Wilson is out for 4 months then it’s pointless using up one of our squad spaces for him just for the last month….it might then create a space.

We don’t need to make space. We just don’t register players that don’t make the squad. You can assume we can afford to do that now at least short term to try and stop getting relegated.
