Absloute stinker today. He has some nice touches but i don't see what he has that will make him a top level player.

He's probably been our best midfielder over the last couple months, one swallow doesn't make a summer

He started the first goal by showing a bit of bravery on the ball. Demanded it deep in our half under pressure, took 2-3 players out the game when he turned inside and got us rolling.

Whatever the fuck was he doing for their last goal, though?! he’s not even looked. There’s being a risk taker in possession and there is being stupid

I thought he was one of our better players first half. I’m only judging the first half. The second is null and void

If there was ever a moment which summed up one of the biggest head losses I've seen from a Newcastle team in years and years, it was that. Absolutely ludicrous mistake and I'm happy to believe it was no true reflection of the player. Our worst midfielders ever never just played it across the box to an unmarked attacker.

Just a mad moment; hopefully he forgets it immediately because he's been cracking recently and was really good last night before the whole team received their half-time teamtalk from the brain sucking alien from Starship Troopers.

Should be starting especially if Bruno is out, thought he looked really good when he came on.

If was one of those decisions that stood out in the starting lineup for me straight away. He was one of our best players in recent weeks then benched for some reason.

Even stranger considering he would have been available for the whole international break for training/tactics (barring any holidays taken etc). Hopefully gets to stay in the side the rest of the season now.

Howe preferred Joelinton. Thats the only answer

Thought the same. Our football improved immediately just because he could evade tackles and carry the ball forward.

I think he will now Joelinton is banned for two matches, in fact id be surprised if Joelinton gets back in the starting 11 this season.

As much as I love Joelinton, this summer might be the time to move him on. I guess we can’t be losing both him and Tonali, but we need a different profile in our midfield to move the playing style forward

Jo is far more valuable than the emo cunt.

Totally agree. He’ll struggle next year and beyond imho.

Tonali is actually the bigger problem in that midfield. He's not good enough to initiate any play from the back as he needs to do in that position.

I did think not starting him was odd. He's shown with Bruno out that he can be a really handy mover of the ball for us. In his post-match, Howe even said Palace like to sit deep so surely having a midfielder who can be more flexible would've made sense.

Joe should've been moved on in the summer.

As I’ve posted before it should’ve been the summer before the one just gone imo. Instead he was given a new contract; he’ll be 30 before the start of next season and I can’t see many clubs out there paying him what we do.

I agree. Joelinton does so much for us. Just yesterday he was covering for Hall at LB when he went on a run that ended up at RW and dropped into CB twice when Thiaw and Botman were pressing high.

Ashworth was right when he wanted him moved on like as he was a sell-able asset who at the time had high value. Now he will be here for the foreseeable and gradually getting worse and worse.

We really do hold onto players far too long.

Always felt this way.

It was the perfect time.

But also we need conviction from management. If we did sell him that summer. Would we have put Anderson I his place? I’m not so sure.

We should definitely look to move players on at the right time apart from Bruno. He could be 36 and the kinder eggs have caught up to him and I’ll still give him a pass for losing his runner in midfield.
