Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)

Intended or not, our bid for Ekitike has flushed out Liverpool's interest in Isak.

 

We still need a striker so it isn't a "win", but if it helps us retain Isak in the long run, it's served a purpose.

Burkadt already signed for Frankfurt. Woltemade is potential flop, only has one great season and asking price is mental. What I’ve seen, I would regard him in same category with Maximilian Beier. Potential is there but needs the right set-up and does have great chance for flopping in wrong one

We're still interested in him, but there has been no new information since Monday really, other than the same information recycled over and over. So there is no point keeping days old information when everyone already knows it, it just makes the forum look messy.

I appreciate this way of doing things btw, at least when the title gets updated again the information is new and you know an actual update hae occured.

There's plenty on that list we could easily afford, Romulo looks a beast goals and assists, Brazilian, and Eddie could do some work with him.

 

Not sure what to make of that Daniel Karlsbakk, on 10 goals already and 2 assists, the top scorer in Norway only managed 14 the previous season. 

 

He's going well for halfway through a season 13 games in.

I didn't know Burkardt had completed the move, no wonder they're keen to get as much as possible for Ekitike.

 

There's still plenty out there mind.

 

I do actually like the look of Woltamede, goofy but skillful.

At the end of all this, we've still signed 1 player but lost 2 (Wilson and Longstaff) not to mention Miggy and Kelly leaving. Add to that more games due to champions league games, pardon me for getting slightly concerned now.

 

Absolutely HUGE 6 weeks for us now before the window shuts.

I'm sure isak is by far the guy they want but if they can't get him and they sign Ekitike im struggling to see the bluff here. 

 

They've obviously overplayed the hand they had but it's basically a free option for them. 

 

Their threat is 'give us Isak or we'll spend £80m on a player we keep telling everyone we don't really want' - they keep telling us they don't really want him - that's the bluff. If it was more 'Liverpool have moved onto Ekitike after it was made clear that Isak isn't available' that would be another matter because it would be a simple matter of them moving on to another player they rate highly - but every single brief on this mentions that they want Isak, don't really want Ekitike, and that part of the motivation for doing it is to cockblock us. 

 

And the worst they can do is sign a player we wanted, that they don't really want, spend £80m in the process and we keep Isak. It's not really even a threat, they're spending a huge amount on something that barely damages us.

Ki man, Liverpool are saying that Isak is 1st choice Hugo is second choice. If we won't sell them Isak they will move on the second choice which also happens to be one of our targets. 

 

The bluff element only comes in if they don't sign either imo. If they end up with second choice then they've still filled the position they wanted to.

I really like him & his profile for the squad, as I really liked Pedro, but I'm quite relaxed about this. If this doesn't come off, we have good options left. The key bit is to keep Isak, there are multiple types of striker we could pair him with to get the best out of him when we want to play a 2. Isak-Wilson was a good pairing when it was rolled out (when Wilson was fit), it doesn't necessarily need to be a flexible 10/9-type player, Isak can do that role himself while playing with more of a target man.

Definitely disappointed as I would have loved Ekitike here but if it takes Liverpool out of the Isak market for this and next summer it will be great for us.

 

Guess the question will be whether they would be looking at Ekitike as someone who can play with Isak, rather than just as the alternative to him. We clearly have designs on pairing them up, so Liverpool potentially could too.

Read what I said again - the bluff has nothing to do with signing or not signing, that's just what you picked up from what I said. The bluff is about who they actually want. They keep telling adding the caveat over and over again that they'll only go for Ekitike if the door on Isak stays shut, as if to try and tempt Newcastle into it - but because of the way they're going on we already know that Liverpool don't really want Ekitike.

By far the worst thing in all of this is the fool me once shame on you, fool me twice element to it. There was a window open to sign him, so I get that, but similar to what happened with Palace last year, we knew who we were dealing with - in this case someone who was going to come here and then at the last minute went and signed for another club who swooped in - so it's it's all a bit if you lie with dogs you get fleas.
